CD Details
George Frideric Handel’s Messiah is a Baroque oratorio that premiered in 1742 and remains one of the most performed choral works in classical music. This 1995 recording features Sir Neville Marriner conducting the Academy and Chorus of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, with soloists soprano Elly Ameling, alto Anna Reynolds, tenor Philip Langridge, and bass Gwynne Howell. The performance uses the 1743 London version of the score and presents the work’s iconic movements, from the opening Symphony through celebrated arias and choruses including “Every Valley Shall Be Exalted” and “And the Glory of the Lord.”
This CD release comes from Philips and contains the complete oratorio across multiple tracks spanning all movements. The lush orchestral sound and animated choral work make this a richly textured interpretation of Handel’s masterpiece. Acquire this used copy and add a treasured recording to your collection.
