Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno is an early opera from the Baroque composer, notable for featuring the celebrated aria “Lascia la spina, cogli la rosa.” This January 2010 performance was recorded at Wigmore Hall by the Early Opera Company, a leading British ensemble specializing in period music. Contralto Hilary Summers takes on the traditionally countertenor role of Enlightenment, chosen for her rich and full vocal tone. Director and harpsichordist Christian Curnyn shaped the interpretation to reflect authentic Baroque performance practice, emphasizing natural tempi and the dance-based rhythms inherent to Handel’s compositional style.

This two-disc set was released by The Wigmore Hall Trust on their Wigmore Hall Live label. A used copy lets you experience this historically informed recording at a fraction of retail cost.
