Hamish Macbeth is a 1995 BBC drama series starring Robert Carlyle as the titular police constable in the small Scottish highland village of Lochdubh. Rather than focusing purely on crime-solving, the show explores the social dynamics and quirky characters of this tight-knit community, with Carlyle’s intense presence anchoring stories that range from darkly comic to unexpectedly poignant. The ensemble cast, including Shirley Henderson, Ralph Riach, and Jimmy Yuill, brings depth to a series that prioritizes character and emotional resonance alongside its mystery elements.

This is a 2-disc DVD set containing the complete first series with a total runtime of four hours and fifty-three minutes, released by Zenith Entertainment with a Not Rated designation. From episodes involving lobsters and ice cream to more serious explorations of loss and revenge, the writing and performances create a show that appeals to viewers seeking something beyond standard whodunnit fare. Own this used copy and experience the early work that preceded Carlyle’s later film success.
