Frontline - Memory of the Camps

Movie / Show Details

Memory of the Camps is a 2014 PBS documentary directed by Sidney Bernstein that examines the creation of a groundbreaking 1945 film documenting Nazi concentration camps. When Allied film crews entered these camps following liberation, they encountered horrors that demanded to be preserved for history. Working from footage compiled by Bernstein’s team and overseen by Alfred Hitchcock, the documentary reveals the urgent effort to capture evidence of genocide, including scenes of gas chambers, experimentation facilities, and the devastated survivors who remained. Some material was filmed in the final moments before camps were liberated, as Nazi soldiers attempted to destroy evidence of their crimes.
