Edward & Mrs. Simpson is a 1978 British television drama directed by Waris Hussein that chronicles the controversial relationship between the future King Edward VIII and American socialite Wallis Simpson. When Edward ascends to the throne, his determination to marry Simpson-a divorced woman with a scandalous past-creates a constitutional crisis that shakes the British Empire. Torn between his royal duties and his personal desires, Edward must ultimately choose between the crown and his heart.
