Two musical dramas from Twentieth Century Fox showcase the charm of 1930s Hollywood storytelling. Curly Top (1935) follows a wealthy man who adopts an orphan girl and her older sister under an assumed name, only to discover romantic feelings for the sister as he grows closer to the family. Dimples (1936) centers on a talented young street performer living in New York’s Bowery with her grandfather, a kindhearted pickpocket. When she’s hired to perform at a wealthy widow’s home, she catches the eye of a theatrical producer and lands a role in a stage production, though her loyalty to her grandfather complicates her newfound opportunities.

This two-disc DVD collection presents both films with a combined runtime of two hours and thirty-three minutes, rated not rated. Directed by Irving Cummings and William A. Seiter, these family-oriented musicals feature Rochelle Hudson, John Boles, Frank Morgan, Jane Darwell, Robert Kent, and Esther Dale. A used copy lets you experience classic studio-era entertainment without the new price tag.
