Ludwig van Beethoven composed his cello and fortepiano sonatas across different periods of his career, and this 1991 recording brings three of them together. Cellist Michael Steinberg and fortepianist Malcolm Bilson perform Sonata No. 3 in A Major, Op. 69, along with the two Op. 102 sonatas in C and D major, exploring the composer’s chamber music writing with period-appropriate instrumentation.

Released on Elektra Nonesuch, this single CD contains all three sonatas with a total runtime of approximately 58 minutes. The recording was made at Oud-Katholieke Kathedrale Sinte Gertrude Utrecht. Add this used copy to your collection and enjoy Beethoven’s intimate instrumental works at a fraction of retail cost.
