Canciones De Mi Padre is a 1994 CD of traditional conjunto music by Santiago Jr., who follows in the footsteps of his father, Santiago Sr., a renowned conjunto patriarch. The album features the old-style conjunto sound with graceful simplicity, including upbeat dance polkas like “Antonia Antonia” and “El Pescador,” along with corridos, the Mexican narrative song form historically used to document major events. The track “Inundacion de Piedras Negras” tells the story of a devastating flood, while “Todo por Ti” offers a heartfelt love song and “Eres un Encanto” celebrates answered prayers. Most compositions were written by Santiago Sr., and this recording serves as a tribute to those classics.

This one-disc release on Watermelon Records Inc. brings together folk, world, and country traditions with Latin influences. Picking up a used copy from us means owning a piece of traditional conjunto heritage at a fraction of retail cost.
