Cabin in the Sky is a 1943 musical fantasy-comedy from MGM directed by Vincente Minnelli. Eddie “Rochester” Anderson stars as Little Joe, a gambling man who dies and gets a second chance to prove his worthiness for heaven. Caught between the competing influences of his devoted wife Petunia (Ethel Waters) and the temptress Georgia Brown (Lena Horne), Little Joe must navigate a spiritual battle as an angel and a devil’s representative fight for control of his soul. The film features performances by Louis Armstrong and showcases a vibrant story about virtue, temptation, and redemption set to memorable musical numbers.
