Bordertown is a 2007 crime thriller directed by Gregory Nava that follows Lauren Adrian, an American journalist played by Jennifer Lopez, as she investigates a series of murders targeting young women who work in maquiladoras along the US-Mexico border. When her editor assigns her to cover the killings instead of the Iraq War she requested, Lauren uncovers a dark pattern of corporate exploitation and systemic violence connected to the factories operating under the North American Free Trade Agreement. Martin Sheen, Irineo Alvarez, Rene Rivera, and Maya Zapata round out the cast in this examination of how large corporations profit from the labor of vulnerable workers.
