Jim Carrey stars in this 2007 psychological thriller directed by Joel Schumacher, who previously collaborated with the actor on Batman Forever. Carrey plays an animal control officer whose life takes a disturbing turn when he discovers a mysterious novel that appears to chronicle his own existence. As he reads deeper into the book’s dark narrative, he becomes increasingly convinced that the story was written specifically about him, and he grows obsessed with a chilling detail: the novel ends with his own death. The number 23 becomes a haunting focal point, appearing throughout both the book and his real life in ways that blur the line between fiction and reality.
