Bonnie Raitt

CD Details

Bonnie Raitt’s self-titled debut arrived when the guitarist was just 21 years old, showcasing the blues and rock sensibilities she had developed performing in folk and blues clubs across the Northeast alongside legends like Mississippi Fred McDowell, Buddy Guy, and Junior Wells. Her slide-guitar work is already fully formed on this record, and her song selection demonstrates remarkable taste, ranging from Stephen Stills’ folk-rock composition “Bluebird” to Robert Johnson’s “Walking Blues,” a bluesy reimagining of the Marvelettes’ “Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead,” and several strong originals including “Thank You” and “Finest Lovin’ Man.” The album also features material from her mentor Sippie Wallace, including the provocative “Mighty Tight Woman.”

This CD contains ten tracks spanning roughly 34 minutes of blues and rock music. Raitt’s debut remains a compelling listen that demonstrates why her career would become one worth following closely. Grab this used copy and own a piece of blues history.
