Beyond the Gates of Splendor is a 2002 documentary directed by Jim Hanon that examines a pivotal moment in history when American missionaries encountered the Waodani Indians of Ecuador’s Amazon basin in the mid-1950s. The film draws on home-movie footage, photographs, and firsthand accounts from both American and Waodani perspectives to tell the story of what happened when cultural contact led to tragedy and, ultimately, to an extraordinary act of forgiveness. Narrated by Steve Saint, whose father was among five missionaries killed in 1956, the documentary explores themes of love, understanding, and the complex consequences of missionary work on indigenous communities.

This single-disc DVD release runs 96 minutes and carries a PG-13 rating from Bearing Fruit Entertainment. The cast includes Carmela, Christopher Maleki, Dave Howard, Dawa, Dayumae, and Elisabeth Elliot Gren, all of whom provide crucial testimony to these events.
