Vincente Minnelli directed this 1951 MGM musical romance about an American painter navigating life in postwar Paris. Gene Kelly stars as Jerry Mulligan, a former GI pursuing his artistic dreams while caught between a wealthy patron and a local woman he loves. Leslie Caron makes her film debut opposite Kelly, with Oscar Levant providing witty support as Jerry’s pianist friend. The film showcases the music of George and Ira Gershwin throughout, from intimate ballads to energetic dance numbers, and concludes with an elaborate 17-minute ballet sequence that has become legendary in cinema history.
This two-disc special edition DVD release runs 114 minutes and carries an Approved rating from MGM. The set includes the complete film with its iconic musical performances and choreography.
