Alien Resurrection is a 1997 science fiction horror film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and written by Dan O’Bannon, Joss Whedon, and Ronald Shusett. Set two centuries after the events of the original Alien, the story follows scientists who clone the deceased Lt. Ripley to use as a means of breeding the perfect extraterrestrial weapon. However, the cloning process merges alien DNA with Ripley’s human genetics, giving her unexpected abilities and a dangerous edge. When a crew of smugglers arrives at the space station, the newly created aliens escape their containment, forcing Ripley and the smugglers to work together to prevent the creatures from reaching Earth. Sigourney Weaver returns as Ripley, joined by Winona Ryder and Dominique Pinon.
