Æon Flux is a 2005 science fiction action thriller directed by Karyn Kusama and based on the animated series. Set in 2415, four centuries after a virus has nearly wiped out humanity, the story follows Æon Flux, a skilled operative for the Monicans, an underground resistance movement fighting against the Goodchild regime that rules the surviving city of Bregna. Charlize Theron stars as Æon, sent on a mission to assassinate the regime’s leader, Trevor Goodchild, played by Marton Csokas. As she pursues her assignment under orders from her Handler, Frances McDormand, Æon discovers conspiracies and secrets that run deeper than she expected. The film also features Jonny Lee Miller, Sophie Okoneko, and others in this stylized cyberpunk adventure.
