Terry Gilliam directed this 1995 science fiction thriller starring Bruce Willis as a convict dispatched through time to stop a devastating virus that has decimated humanity and forced survivors underground. Upon arrival, he finds himself in the wrong era and locked in a psychiatric facility, where he must persuade his skeptical psychiatrist of his urgent mission while piecing together clues about a shadowy organization called the Army of the 12 Monkeys, suspected of releasing the plague. Brad Pitt plays a fellow patient whose connection to the conspiracy may prove crucial to Cole’s desperate race against time.
