Distant Kin documents a live performance from San Francisco Jazz Center featuring tabla master Zakir Hussain alongside Celtic musicians from Ireland, Scotland, and France. This unique collaboration emerged from an initial invitation by the Scotland Arts Council, bringing together classical Indian percussion traditions with Celtic instrumental music. The ensemble performed at the Olympic opening ceremony before embarking on a North American tour, with this recording capturing the creative exchange during their San Francisco stop.

This CD release preserves the live performance from the Jazz Center, showcasing the musical dialogue between Hussain’s tabla work and the Celtic musicians’ arrangements. A used copy lets you experience this cross-cultural musical meeting at a fraction of the original retail price.
