Woman of the Year is a 1942 romantic comedy-drama directed by George Stevens and written by John Lee Mahin, Michael Kanin, and Ring Lardner Jr. Katharine Hepburn stars as Tess Harding, a forward-thinking political journalist, opposite Spencer Tracy as Sam Craig, a sports columnist with old-fashioned sensibilities. Both work at the same New York newspaper, and though they initially clash, they eventually fall in love and marry. When Tess receives the Woman of the Year award, their relationship becomes strained as traditional roles reverse and Sam struggles with his wife’s ambitious career and public prominence.
