Recorded at Springsteen’s New Jersey farmhouse during a three-day session with a group of New York musicians playing banjos, fiddles, accordions and other acoustic instruments, the album captures organic performances with no rehearsals or overdubs. The material spans protest songs, Irish ballads, bluegrass numbers and folk standards, with Springsteen’s interpretations ranging from politically charged to playfully spirited.
This CD was released by Sony Legacy and runs approximately 40 minutes, featuring tracks including Old Dan Tucker, Jesse James, Mrs. McGrath, O Mary Don’t You Weep, John Henry, Erie Canal, Jacob’s Ladder, My Oklahoma Home, Eyes On The Prize and Shenandoah. A hand-inspected copy of this folk-rock recording offers an affordable way to own Springsteen’s tribute to American roots music.
