Volcano Rue Chaptal is a 2010 jazz CD featuring the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band performing their complete live recordings from Ronnie Scott’s on February 28th, 1969. This digitally remastered release combines two separate albums recorded during the same evening, showcasing big band arrangements built mostly on originals by Boland. The collection includes the blues number “Griff’s Groove,” which highlights Griffin and Bailey, along with Clarke’s explosive “Volcano,” composed as a feature for Clarke and drummer Kenny Clare. Also featured is the gospel-inflected blues “Now Hear My Meanin’,” penned by Ellington veteran Woode, with soulful solos from alto saxophonist Derek Humble, trombonist Ake Persson, and baritone saxophonist Shihab.
