Trouble Along the Way is a 1953 comedy-drama directed by Michael Curtiz and starring John Wayne as a former football coach hired to revive the struggling football program at a small Catholic college. Facing both diocesan politics threatening the school’s survival and a custody battle with his ex-wife over their daughter, Wayne’s character must navigate complex personal and professional challenges. Donna Reed plays a social worker caught between her duty and her feelings for Wayne’s morally compromised coach, while Charles Coburn appears as a shrewd college administrator. The script by Melville Shavelson and Jack Rose presents Wayne in an unusually complicated role, willing to bend rules and engage in questionable tactics to achieve his goals.

This single-disc DVD release runs 91 minutes and carries a US Approved rating from Warner Bros. The film offers an intriguing mix of sports drama, romance, and comedy that subverts typical heroic portrayals of its lead actor. Own this overlooked gem on physical media at a used price that won’t strain your budget.
