Tropic Thunder is a 2008 satirical comedy directed by and starring Ben Stiller. The film follows a group of self-absorbed actors filming an expensive war movie in the Southeast Asian jungle. When the director drops them into the wilderness under the pretense of capturing authentic performances with hidden cameras, the unprepared cast members-including a drug-addled comedy star and a committed method actor-quickly find themselves caught in genuine danger as a series of mishaps lands them in the middle of an actual war zone. The ensemble cast also features Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Bill Hader, and Anthony Ruivivar, with a screenplay by Stiller, Etan Cohen, and Justin Theroux.
