Triumph & Tragedy: His Greatest Performances collects recordings by bass-baritone George London, born in Montreal to a Russian Jewish family and raised in Los Angeles. During the 1950s and early 1960s, London became a major force in opera, performing across Europe and America. After auditioning for conductor Karl Böhm in Brussels in 1949, he went on to enjoy considerable success at Vienna State Opera, Bayreuth, and the Metropolitan Opera. Medical issues led to his retirement from performing in the mid-1960s.

This 10-CD box set from The Intense Media features London’s vocal legacy spanning Mozart to Mussorgsky, with performances from Vienna, Bayreuth, and New York. Conductors include Rudolf Kempe, Hans Knappertsbusch, and Georg Solti. Acquire this used collection and own a piece of operatic history.
