Time Is Right is a hard bop jazz album by the Woody Shaw Quintet, released in 1993 on Red Records Italy. Woody Shaw’s trumpet work draws inspiration from John Coltrane’s intervallic approach, employing fourths and pentatonic scales to create a distinctive sound that sets him apart. The quintet, a regular working band that had developed a cohesive musical relationship since 1979, forgoes a permanent saxophonist in favor of a trumpet-trombone lead configuration. The four selections showcase the group’s harmonic sophistication and internal vitality, with Shaw’s style ranging from lyrical to edgy, complemented by quirky phrasing that keeps listeners engaged.

This single-disc CD contains four extended tracks: “From Moment To Moment” (12:09), “Time Is Right” (12:14), “You And The Night And The Music” (12:21), and “We’ll Be Together Again” (10:23). Acquire this used copy and own a snapshot of one of Shaw’s finest ensembles.
