Movie / Show Details

Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2007 drama follows Daniel Plainview, a ruthless oil prospector who transforms himself from a struggling silver miner into a self-made tycoon during California’s early petroleum boom. Raising his son H.W. on his own, Plainview heads to the dusty town of Little Boston after learning of vast oil reserves beneath the ground. There he strikes it rich, but his success attracts the attention of Eli Sunday, a charismatic preacher whose church dominates the community. As Plainview’s wealth grows, his conflicts with Sunday intensify, and the corrupting influence of oil threatens to destroy everything he values, including his relationship with his son.
