Nicolas Cage stars as Balthazar Blake, a powerful sorcerer protecting modern-day Manhattan from his arch-nemesis Maxim Horvath, played by Alfred Molina. When Balthazar realizes he cannot face this threat alone, he recruits Dave Stutler, an ordinary young man with untapped magical potential, to become his reluctant apprentice. Through an intense magical education, the unlikely pair must combine their powers to battle one of history’s most dangerous villains. Dave must find the courage within himself to complete his training, protect the city, and prove he has what it takes to be the sorcerer’s apprentice.
