Released in 1997, The Serpent’s Kiss is a British drama-romance directed by Philippe Rousselot and written by Tim Rose Price. Ewan McGregor stars as Chrome, a young landscape architect hired to transform an overgrown estate into an elaborate garden of topiary and hedge mazes. Unknown to his wealthy employer Smithers, Chrome is actually carrying out a scheme devised by Smithers’s bitter rival, who aims to bankrupt him and seduce his wife. When Chrome becomes captivated by Smithers’s mysterious daughter, the carefully laid plans begin to unravel amid jealousy, decadence, and Machiavellian intrigue.
