Directed by Justin Chadwick and based on Philippa Gregory’s novel, The Other Boleyn Girl is a 2008 period drama centered on two sisters vying for power and love in the court of King Henry VIII. When the king seeks an heir, the ambitious Duke of Norfolk and Sir Thomas Boleyn see an opportunity for their family’s advancement. They initially push Anne Boleyn toward seducing the monarch, but Henry becomes enamored with her sister Mary instead. As Mary’s pregnancy keeps her confined, Anne is tasked with preventing the king from losing interest, yet her own desires for his affection soon complicate the family’s carefully laid plans. Eric Bana stars as Henry VIII, with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson playing the scheming sisters, alongside Mark Rylance and Jim Sturgess.
