Nick Cassavetes directed this 2004 romantic drama set in a small coastal town in the American South. The story moves between two time periods: the present day, where an elderly man visits his wife at a nursing home and reads to her from a worn notebook, and the 1940s, when a young couple named Noah and Allie fell deeply in love before World War II tore them apart. Years later, after Noah returns from the war, he discovers he cannot let go of the promises they made to each other, even though Allie is now engaged to someone else.

This single-disc DVD features James Garner and Gena Rowlands in the present-day scenes, with Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams playing the younger versions of the main characters in flashback. A used copy lets you experience this sweeping romance without the full retail cost.
