Tim Burton’s 1993 stop-motion animated musical follows Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who discovers Christmas Town and becomes enchanted by its magic. Convinced he can improve the holiday, Jack kidnaps Santa Claus and takes over Christmas, planning to deliver frightening gifts instead of traditional ones. His devoted girlfriend Sally, a rag doll creation, recognizes the danger in his scheme and attempts to prevent the holiday disaster. Directed by Henry Selick with a screenplay by Caroline Thompson and Michael McDowell, the film features voice work from Catherine O’Hara, Chris Sarandon, Danny Elfman, Paul Reubens, and William Hickey, along with an imaginative score by Elfman.
