Oliver Parker directs this 2002 British comedy adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s beloved play, featuring Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Frances O’Connor, Judi Dench, and Tom Wilkinson. Set in 1890s England, the film follows two bachelors who create elaborate deceptions to escape their everyday lives. Worthing uses a fictitious brother named Ernest as his cover when visiting the city, where he falls for the charming Gwendolen. Meanwhile, his friend Algy adopts the same Ernest persona while pursuing Worthing’s ward Cecily in the countryside. When their schemes collide and both men claim to be Ernest, confusion and romantic chaos ensue as they scramble to reveal their true identities.

This is a single-disc DVD release from Miramax with a runtime of 97 minutes and a PG rating. Owning this used copy lets you enjoy Wilde’s wit and Parker’s spirited interpretation without the cost of a new purchase.
