Eugene Jarecki directs this 2012 documentary examining four decades of America’s War on Drugs and its far-reaching consequences. Through interviews with people across the criminal justice system-from drug dealers and police officers to judges, inmates, and grieving families-the film explores how drug policy has fueled mass incarceration, devastated poor communities, and perpetuated systemic inequality. Rather than reducing drug availability, the war has created a sprawling enforcement apparatus that treats addiction as a criminal matter instead of a public health issue, while political and economic interests have sustained the policy despite mounting evidence of its failures.

This single-disc DVD release runs 108 minutes and carries an IMDb rating of 7.9. Produced by Al Jazeera Documentary Channel, it features David Simon, Eugene Jarecki, and other voices from law enforcement, the judiciary, and affected communities. A used copy lets you own this unflinching look at American drug policy without the cost of a new purchase.
