The Cutting Edge: Going for the Gold is a 2006 romantic drama directed by Sean McNamara that serves as both a sequel and remake to the original 1992 film. Christy Carlson Romano stars as Jackie, a figure skater who must turn to pairs skating after an injury ends her solo career. While on vacation in California, she meets Alex, a laid-back surfer and inline skater played by Ross Thomas, and the two share an initial spark. When Alex’s endorsement deal falls through, he travels to Connecticut to audition as Jackie’s pairs partner, and despite their contrasting personalities and initial friction, the two discover they work beautifully together on the ice. As they train for Olympic gold, romance blooms between them. The film blends sports competition with romantic tension and comedic moments, featuring Olympic gold medalist Oksana Baiul in a supporting role.
