Rod Lurie directed this 2000 political thriller starring Joan Allen as Senator Laine Hanson, a woman nominated to become the first female vice president. When her nomination triggers a cascade of hidden agendas and power struggles, Hanson finds herself in a battle of wills where truth becomes a weapon and compromise carries an enormous cost. Jeff Bridges, Gary Oldman, and Christian Slater round out the cast in this suspenseful examination of ambition and integrity at the highest levels of government.
