CD Details

The Commitments is a 1991 film based on Roddy Doyle’s novel and directed by Alan Parker. The story follows a group of Dublin musicians who form a band dedicated to performing American soul and R&B music. Led by young vocalist Andrew Strong, whose raw and powerful voice anchors the ensemble, the band tackles classic tracks that span decades of soul tradition. Parker’s direction captures both the humor and heart of these working-class musicians as they discover their shared passion for this distinctly American musical genre.

This soundtrack CD features the band performing soul standards including “Mustang Sally,” “Take Me to the River,” “Chain of Fools,” “The Dark End of the Street,” “I Can’t Stand the Rain,” and “Try a Little Tenderness,” among others. The album showcases genuine musicians bringing authentic energy and respect to material that has endured through generations.
