Mark Herman directed this 2008 British historical drama about an eight-year-old boy named Bruno whose family relocates to the European countryside when his father, an SS Commander, is assigned to oversee a concentration camp. During his exploration of the area, Bruno encounters Shmuel, a Jewish boy imprisoned behind the camp fence, and the two form an unlikely friendship despite the horrific reality of their surroundings that remains hidden from Bruno’s understanding. Asa Butterfield stars as Bruno alongside Vera Farmiga, with a screenplay by Herman based on John Boyne’s novel.
