CD Details
Saxophonist Boney James released The Beat in 2013, his first album for Concord Records since 2009. Drawing inspiration from Latin music and R&B, James blends these genres throughout the album, reimagining classics like Sergio Mendes’ “Batucada” as a funk-driven piece. The project features collaborations with vocalists including Raheem DeVaughn and the Floacist, and reunites James with trumpeter Rick Braun. The result is a high-energy collection that merges jazz sophistication with soulful grooves and Latin rhythms.
This CD contains ten tracks recorded across multiple studios including Sunset Sound in Hollywood and Free Sum Music Studio in London. Notable selections include “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing,” “Sunset Boulevard,” “Missing You,” and “Batucada (The Beat),” with a total runtime of approximately forty minutes. Produced by David Rideau, the album showcases James’ passion for crossover music that appeals to fans of Latin jazz, soul, and contemporary R&B. Grab this used copy and experience the vibrant blend of styles on physical media.
