Ten New Songs

CD Details

Leonard Cohen released Ten New Songs in 2001, marking his return after nearly a decade away. During that time, the legendary songwriter spent years in a Zen monastery, meticulously crafting and refining the introspective lyrics for this collection. Cowritten and coproduced by Sharon Robinson, who also performs most of the instrumentation and provides vocal accompaniment throughout, the album represents Cohen’s most restrained work to date. Robinson’s synth-based arrangements create a sparse, contemplative soundscape that prioritizes the weight and clarity of Cohen’s words above all else.

This CD contains ten tracks including “In My Secret Life,” “A Thousand Kisses Deep,” “Alexandra Leaving,” and “Boogie Street,” with a total runtime of approximately 53 minutes. The album was released on Columbia Records and showcases Cohen’s distinctive vocal delivery paired with Robinson’s understated production.
