This four-film collection brings together Lassie’s early theatrical adventures from the 1940s. Lassie Come Home (1943) follows a remarkable collie sold by her poor family who braves storms and danger to return to her young master, with Roddy McDowall and young Elizabeth Taylor in the cast. Son of Lassie (1945) sends the dog’s son Laddie on wartime adventures in Norway alongside a bomber crewman played by Peter Lawford. Courage of Lassie (1946) features the beloved collie serving in the Army, with Elizabeth Taylor returning to the series. Hills of Home (1948) centers on a Scottish doctor who rescues Lassie from a cruel owner but discovers she has a fear of water, with Janet Leigh and Edmund Gwenn starring.
