CD Details
The Swell Season is a folk duo formed by Glen Hansard of the Frames and Czech vocalist Marketa Irglova. Released in 2009, Strict Joy is their second album, following their acclaimed self-titled debut. The pair gained international recognition after starring in the film Once and won an Oscar for Best Original Song with “Falling Slowly” during the 2008 awards season. This collection of twelve original songs captures a period marked by significant personal and creative transformation, blending acoustic instrumentation with layered vocal harmonies across tracks like “Low Rising,” “Feeling The Pull,” and “In These Arms.”
Strict Joy is a single-disc CD released on Anti Records, featuring songs that showcase the duo’s folk songwriting approach. The album includes standout moments such as “Fantasy Man,” “High Horses,” and “I Have Loved You Wrong,” each exploring emotional depth through intimate arrangements. Picking up a used copy lets you own this folk gem at a fraction of the original retail cost.
