Spawn is a 1997 action-horror film based on Todd McFarlane’s comic book series. After being murdered by his former employer, government assassin Al Simmons is resurrected by demonic forces and forced into a dark bargain: he can reunite with his wife Wanda if he agrees to lead an army of demons against Heaven. Transformed into a superhuman entity with regenerative powers, Simmons returns to Earth as “Spawn” only to discover five years have passed and his old boss Jason Wynn has partnered with a demonic clown called The Violator to unleash a deadly virus on the world. Caught between his desire for redemption and the weight of his infernal contract, Spawn must confront both external enemies and his own inner demons. Directed by Mark A.Z. Dippe and starring Michael Jai White, Martin Sheen, and John Leguizamo, the film explores themes of corruption, revenge, and moral compromise.
