SP 4449 the Daylight is a 1989 documentary from Greg Scholl Video Productions following the Southern Pacific Class GS-4 number 4449, a legendary 4-8-4 steam locomotive painted in red, orange, and black. The film captures the engine’s journey from Portland to Los Angeles for a Union Passenger Terminal celebration, documenting two days of travel through the Cascades to Klamath Falls and Oakland, then continuing south to Santa Barbara along the Pacific coast before reaching Los Angeles, where 4449 performs alongside Union Pacific 4-8-4 number 8444 at Union Station and up Cajon Pass.

This is a single DVD featuring footage of the locomotive’s operations, including scenes from the roundhouse, turntable work, cab rides, and the dramatic side-by-side runs that made this excursion memorable. You’ll own a piece of railroad history on physical media when you purchase this used copy from us.
