Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific is a landmark musical based on James Michener’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Tales of the South Pacific. Set on a tropical island during World War II, the story follows two couples whose romantic hopes face obstacles from wartime circumstances and personal prejudices: a U.S. Navy nurse and a French plantation owner, and a Marine and a young local girl. The score features some of musical theater’s most beloved songs, including “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Bali Ha’i,” “There is Nothin’ Like a Dame,” and “A Cockeyed Optimist.”

This 2008 Broadway cast recording captures the first-ever Broadway revival of the classic musical on the Masterworks Broadway label. The CD includes the full score across two discs, opening with the overture and spanning both acts of the production.
