Songs Around The World (CD + DVD)

CD Details

Playing for Change released this world music project in 2009, bringing together musicians from across the globe to perform collaborative versions of beloved songs. Founded by Grammy-winning producer Mark Johnson, the group traveled to diverse locations worldwide-from New Orleans to South Africa, from the Himalayas to Jerusalem-recording artists in their own communities and environments. The resulting album features performances of songs like “Stand By Me,” “One Love,” “Biko,” “A Change Is Gonna Come,” and others, each track blending voices and instruments separated by thousands of miles to create unified musical statements that transcend cultural and geographical boundaries.

This release combines a CD and DVD on the Hear Music label, with the audio disc containing eleven tracks ranging from three to six minutes in length. The accompanying DVD captures the visual story of these international recording sessions and collaborative performances. Acquiring this used copy lets you experience the project’s vision of music as a bridge between different cultures and communities.
