Some Rainy Morning is a 1997 funk and soul album by The Robert Cray Band that blends urban blues guitar with Southern soul vocals. Recorded with a stripped-down road quartet, the album explores themes of romantic heartbreak and working-class struggle through both original compositions and covers of Wilson Pickett’s “Jealous Love” and Syl Johnson’s “Steppin’ Out.” Cray’s approach remains rooted in his signature style, yet the refined arrangements here give his singing and playing more space to shine, allowing emotional nuance to come through with greater impact.

Released on Mercury Records, this CD contains ten tracks including “Let’s Get It Started,” “You Bring Me Up,” and “Spirit.” The album runs approximately 46 minutes and showcases Cray’s ability to convey complex feelings, whether holding out notes for dramatic effect or capturing the paradox of loving someone ungrateful or insisting an ex never mattered while clearly still hurting from her absence. Own this used copy and experience the subtle refinement Cray brought to his craft.
