Soap is a 1977 comedy-drama series created by Susan Harris and directed by Jay Sandrich that follows two sisters from different social classes navigating outrageous domestic crises in suburban Connecticut. Jessica Tate, a wealthy woman played by Katherine Helmond, and Mary Campbell, a working-class housewife portrayed by Cathryn Damon, find their families entangled in scandal and absurdity. The ensemble cast includes Billy Crystal as Jodie, Richard Mulligan as Mary’s husband Burt, Robert Guillaume, and Rod Roddy. This satirical take on soap opera conventions boldly addresses controversial topics while balancing irreverent humor with genuine character depth and engaging drama.

This is a 3-disc DVD set containing the complete first season with a runtime of 10 hours and 9 minutes, presented unrated. All 25 episodes were written by Harris and directed by Sandrich, delivering polished half-hour installments of comedy that became groundbreaking television.
