Sleeping Lotus is a 2005 album by Li Xiangting featuring improvisational music for guqin and xiao, two ancient Chinese instruments with roots stretching back over three thousand years. The guqin, a seven-stringed zither, pairs with the xiao, a bamboo flute, to create eleven serene instrumental pieces with titles like “Lilac Dreams,” “Pure Autumn Moon,” “Calm Lake,” and “Phoenix Spreads Wings.” Li Xiangting revived improvisational guqin playing, an art form that had been lost for more than a millennium, making this one of the first full recordings of this style ever created in the West.

This CD contains the folk and world music tracks performed by one of the few master musicians practicing this ancient improvisational tradition. Each piece invites deep listening and reflection, offering a meditative soundscape for relaxation or contemplation. Acquire this used copy and experience a rare recording of a musical heritage brought back to life.
