Slam Dunk is a 1993 Japanese anime sports series created by Takehiko Inoue and directed by Junji Shimizu, Kazuhisa Takenouchi, and Nobutaka Nishizawa. The show follows Sakuragi Hanamichi, a high school freshman who initially joins the basketball team to win over a girl, but soon discovers he has genuine talent for the sport. In this volume, the Shohoku team faces off against the formidable Ryonan squad and their star player Sendoh. Despite Hanamichi’s surprising athleticism and natural instincts for the game, the team struggles with injuries to key players and a significant height disadvantage. As the rivalry intensifies, Hanamichi must navigate his jealousy over a teammate’s connection to the girl he likes while helping lead his team to an unlikely victory.
