Slack Key Guitar: The Artistry of Sonny Lim is a 2005 instrumental album by Sonny Lim, a member of Hawaii’s renowned musical Lim family. Growing up in the Kohala region of the Big Island where slack key guitar originated, Lim developed his mastery of ki ho alu, the traditional Hawaiian fingerstyle technique. This solo recording showcases his ability to blend deep roots in the style with his own distinctive voice, featuring unaccompanied performances that highlight both the classical foundations and personal innovations in his playing.

Released on Palm Records through Lava Tracks Recording Studio, this CD contains 11 tracks including “Hoku’ula,” “Pau Hana Rag,” “Punahoa Special,” “Kohala Medley,” and “Lovely Is Kohala,” with a total runtime of approximately 41 minutes. The album earned a Grammy nomination in the Hawaiian category and was produced by Charles Michael Brotman.
